Nick Swing
Clinical Intern
Nick is a clinical intern specializing in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depression, grief, and other forms of anxiety. He primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)—evidence-based approaches that help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, cultivate more balanced thinking, and engage in healthier behaviors.
Background
Nick is a clinical intern and master’s student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of the Cumberlands. Nick is a career-changer, transitioning to counseling from a background in technology and private equity. His internship training includes one-on-one supervision and mentorship from seasoned clinicians, as well as bespoke training from specialists in advanced modalities such as Prolonged Exposure therapy. Nick focuses on treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depression, grief, and various forms of anxiety, using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
While he values practical, behavior-focused interventions, Nick believes the why of therapy is just as important as the how. Drawing from existential and narrative therapy, he helps clients explore meaning, identity, and personal values, fostering both symptom relief and a deeper sense of fulfillment and intentional living. In addition to the above specialties, Nick has theological training that informs his clinical interest in spiritual issues, such as religious trauma and shame.
